Identity politics readings

Over the years, I’ve been trying to get to grips with various aspects of identity politics. My political and activist background means I’m more familiar with the issues surrounding class, race and culture than I am with gender identity politics which being honest, I’m still struggling to get my head around! In the process of adding more nuance to the way I understand and deal with identity politics, I’ve started to compile what is at this stage, a bit of a rough and ready reading list. As I’m still trying to get to grips with the complex, sensitive and divisive issue of gender identity, I feel that as things stand at the moment, it would be wrong to start including readings about it. The inclusion of a piece in this reading list does not imply agreement. Inclusion is on the basis that I’ve found something useful, interesting, controversial and provocative. This is with the intention of encouraging constructive discussion and debate. Suggestions for readings are always welcome…
